The Special Commodity Levy (SCL) on a kilo of imported sugar has been increased by Rs. 8 with effect from midnight yesterday (15th Aug.).
At present, the price of a kilo of sugar in the world market has been reduced by Rs. 10. Though the SCL has been increased, the Sugar Importers’ Association has informed the government that there would be no change in the selling price.
The decision has been taken yesterday at the Cabinet Subcommittee on Cost of Living.
